Couples & Family Therapy

Work on your relationship dynamics together: understanding patterns, improving communication, and building deeper connection.

What Sessions Feel Like

Couples and family therapy is about more than just solving the current conflict. It's about understanding the deeper patterns at play: how you each learned to connect, protect yourselves, and communicate.

In our sessions, I create a space where everyone feels heard. That means I won't take sides, but I will help you see each other's perspectives more clearly. We'll slow down reactive moments, explore what's happening beneath the surface, and practice new ways of relating.

You'll leave with a better understanding of your relationship dynamics and practical tools for communicating differently. Real change is possible. It just takes willingness from everyone involved.

My Approach to Couples Work

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, EFT helps couples identify and transform negative interaction patterns by accessing the underlying emotions driving conflict. We'll work on creating secure emotional bonds and healthier ways of connecting.

Gottman Method

Based on decades of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, this approach provides practical tools for managing conflict, building friendship, and creating shared meaning. You'll learn evidence-based strategies for strengthening your relationship.

I draw from both approaches based on what your relationship needs, sometimes focusing on emotional connection, sometimes on practical skills.

What We Might Work On

Communication breakdowns and recurring arguments
Rebuilding trust after a breach
Navigating major life transitions together
Understanding different attachment styles
Managing conflict without escalation
Deepening emotional intimacy and connection
Parenting challenges and co-parenting
Preparing for marriage or commitment

My Role in the Room

I'm not a referee who decides who's right. I'm also not going to tell you what to do. Instead, I serve as a guide, helping you understand each other better and find your own path forward.

That means I'll:

  • Slow down heated moments so you can actually hear each other
  • Point out patterns that might be invisible to you
  • Help each person feel understood, even when you disagree
  • Teach practical communication tools you can use at home
  • Gently challenge dynamics that aren't serving you
